Knit 1, Spin 1

Dugly is as Dugly Does

11.04.2007 · 4 Comments

One of the blogs I read posted this little piece about knitting Dugly-Ucks. I admit it. I have some and I’ve ignored them. Hid them even. Piling the new sock yarn on top of them, so that it’s easy to forget that for a brief sock-yarn-buying-crazed moment I lost my mind. OK, I lost it more than once, but you see, when I’m staring at sock yarn I get … temporary amnesia (insanity, maybe?). I don’t judge the sock yarn as pretty or ugly. I just toss it in that convenient shopping cart (real or virtual). Only then when I enter the Secret Sacred Stash Room to carefully tuck away the treasured acquisition do I wonder, “What was I thinking?”

I’ve since made it my mission to knit all those Dugly-Ucks and decided to keep it very simple. No deadline and nothing fancy. Just plain Vanilla, so I don’t have to look at it while watching movies, like Transformers or 300. And I won’t torture you by writing a separate post on them. Just to give you (and I) a good laugh, I’ll post an obligatory finished Dugly-Uck pic … too bad I can’t wave a magic knitting needle and chant a “Bippity, Boppity Boo.”

Any day now the Journal of the American Medical Association will publish that article on The Dugly-Uck Syndrome. Yup … any day.

Those aren’t so Dugly! A little, ummm, loud, perhaps .. or … ummm … energetic? Good job on getting them done!

Hi Dina! It was nice meeting you, too. Meanwhile I visited the Kundert Spindles Site – and since then have been saying to myself: “No, Eva, you don’t want to buy a new spindle – you prefer to build your own spindles – you want to improve your own spindle-making – you don’t need to buy a spindle…..” etc. Hope this Mantra will help ;-)
    But they are really beautiful!

“Secret Sacred Stash Room” – *lol* :-)

bruisinraincloud: Thank you. You knit just fine :)

Dave: Perhaps dugly is in the eye of the beholder? I’m still not finished with my Dugly-Ucks … I actually dug out two more balls … yikes!

Eva-Liese: Hallo, Eva! It was nice meeting you, too. Those Kunderts are beautiful and I especially love the inlaid woodwork. You must bring your spindle at the next Meetup … what are your plans for your next spindle?

Rock thinks I should have a Mantra like that, but I could think of one for him: “I do not need another 16V turbo engine. I do not need another 16V turbo engine….”
