Ooh, I loved spinning this and the dyed fiber revealed very subtle, but beautiful color transitions on the bobbin — I really regret not taking a photo to show you.

Fiber: Bluefaced Leicester from Erica of Squoosh, Lilacs
Weight: 3 7/8 oz.
Length: 236 yds.
Specs: 16 WPI, 2-ply, wheel spun on Kromski Sonata
I originally knit the Elfine (link to pdf) pattern with the first sock, but realized that it was too deja-vu for me. Full explanation on the next post … I promise!
So, back to the drawing board.
Rip (carefully). Skein. Soak. Dry.
Did I feel anxious starting over again? Nope. Knitting with your own handspun is like … knitting in heaven … and I don’t mind a few knitting sessions in heaven every now and then.

Pattern: Coupling by Deb Barnhill
Yarn: Handspun Bluefaced Leicester, Lilacs (specs above)
Needles: Inox circs (US 2 / 2.75 mm)
Gauge: 7.5 SPI
Mods: Turkish cast-on toe, modified QK gusset, QK heel
Yup, lots of mods here, so I guess you could say that I just used the lace pattern, but I’m not a big fan of short-row toes (yet). I also prefer the Queen Kahuna Crazy Toes and Heels method of knitting a toe-up sock with heel flap and gusset, and I even modify her gusset technique to suit my knitting preferences — mods with mods, this sock — but they sure fit beautifully :)

Wow, those are gorgeous! Knitting with your own handspun is such a treat, isn’t it? The color works perfectly with the lace pattern.

Rachel: Thank you, it certainly is a treat — it was a joy spinning the fiber and knitting the pattern :)
Pat: Thank you, Pat. I’m wondering if you’ll ever take that spinning plunge … if only to play a bit :)

It gives me great pleasure to see that wool turned into such beautiful spinning and wonderful socks. Bravo!

Erica: Thank you :)
It was a wonderful experience to spin your lovely hand-dyed fiber … I can’t wait to finish spinning (and knitting) the rest of them!
