Everything but the WIPs

Center Square
Pink isn’t a color I’d normally wear. These colors were actually leftovers from a couple of hats I knit for Nugget years ago, but with Winter being so dreary, I thought these colors would brighten up a grey day.

Pattern: Center Square
Yarn: Gedifra Fashion Trend 4945 (pink), 4901 (red); 1 each
Needles: Addi circs (US 10.5 / 6.5 mm)
Gauge: 3.25 SPI / 4 RPI
Mods: Gauge, decreases

Even though I think it fits fine, I took a gamble changing the needle size and gauge. If I were to knit this again, I’d go down to a needle size US10. I knit only one round with the CC (pink) before I started the decreases. I also prefer a rounder crown and knit the decreases this way: (K6, K2 tog) rep 8 times. Next round: (K5, K2 tog) rep 8 times. Knitting one stitch less on each round before the K2 tog, then drawing in the remaining 8 stitches. Flat and unstretched, the hat measures 9.5 inches across, and at 8 inches from top of crown to bottom edge, it covers my ears without pulling. I was also surprised that I had enough yarn to knit this hat with the yarn doubled.

I’m now a knitted hat convert, especially fun when knitting with two circs! I have never worn a knitted hat until now and I cannot believe how incredibly warm it keeps my noggin. I must knit more hats!

Not Another Pair of Socks
Yeah, I know. I couldn’t help it, but they keep my feet so warm!

Pattern: My own
Yarn: Uschi Wolle Strumpfwolle Jacquard Color 216
Needles: Addi circs (2.5 mm)
Gauge: 8 SPI
Specs: Toe-up (64 sts), mod QK gusset, QK heel

For some weird reason, I get anxious trying to decide on a heel treatment for self-patterned yarn. Whether I knit the gusset toe-up or cuff-down, the self-patterned yarn gets funky on me. Although it’s a simple sock, this is the first time I was happy knitting a gusset and heel for a self-patterned sock yarn without frogging it for another type of heel. For the modified QK gusset, I increased every row using a M1 (technically a M1R, M1L) increase, instead of increasing every other row. I also knit the heel stitch after all of the gusset increases were made, instead of knitting the heel stitch while increasing for the gusset. Sometimes I think I get anxious for no reason at all.

And before I forget … prost to a happy and safe New Year!

I wish.

This photo was taken with Rock’s DSLR and wide-angle lens at the 2007 Essen Motor Show. Porsche fine tuned by TECHART.

I just have a few WIPS to finish, but these are the items that need my attention. It seems that knitting socks easily diverts me from finishing the big stuff. At least my feet aren’t complaining.

< 3.8 seconds … still. One could only wish.
